Avon beach is a small family orientated beach near Mudeford Quay. The beach is privately owned and has been run by the
Dereham family since the mid 1930's. The beach is very popular and is one of the premier beaches in the area.
It is a good sandy family beach with many facilities including lifeguard, cafe, toilets, shop and various ice-cream sales points.
The beach has grown significantly in the last 30 years and now boasts a small lagoon near the cafe and bizarrely out-of-place end of groyne markers that pop up in the middle of the beach.
If you want a beach for the kids to dig, with everything close at hand this is the beach for you.
Near the lagoon and cafe at the far western end of Avon beach.
The beach is now much wider than it used to be, notice the cylindrical
top of an end of groyne marker. Once this was 30 metres out in the
water. Now it sits forlornly in the middle of the beach.
.
There is a privately owned car park for about 250 cars
directly butting up onto the beach and another municipal car park for around 200 cars nearby. There is also some parking
along the road above the beach and a further car park nearer Friarscliffe beach.Alternatively you can park
at Mudefored Quay and walk along the coast for about half a mile. Otherwise parking is difficult, most of the
surrounding roads are yellow lined and, although road parking can be found you will need to walk several hundred yards
to the beach
The concrete Promenade at the back of Avon beach. provides an easy
walk along the beach. There is another path at road level following
the same route. This beach has just about all the facilities you
could want for
.
Due to its popularity, in the Summer, this beach gets very crowded, but everything is at hand, and it is a clean safe
beach for all the family. The cafe stays open all year round and serves an excellent Hot Chocolat on a cold winters day.
